As many of you know, over the past couple of weeks we held an auction to benefit our Mompreneurs on a Mission holiday fund.  Our  goal was to raise money to give 3 of our members who have fallen upon hard times a Walmart gift card so that they may have a good holiday for their families this year.  I’m pleased to say we raised $630 and each family will receive a $210 gift card!  While this is amazing news, what’s not so amazing is that I have 21 other families who will not be receiving a card who have expressed need.  It’s absolutely heartbreaking to hear some of these stories.  Have a look at a few….

Last month, my husband walked out on me and my two children. When he did he left us with $4.14 in the bank and a power Shut-Off Notice for 5pm that day. Since then I have been scrambling to try to buy food for the kids, and contacting every agency I can find to help us not end up homeless.”

“I am a single mom and have been struggling for 12 years. I have kept my daughter safe from the abuse of my ex and have worked full time for others while maintaining my own businesses. I lost my stores because my father (business partner) was in a terrible, near fatal accident and have had to devote alot of my life to caring for them. My daughter in the process has suffered but has never complained. Has always understood that Papa came first.”

“Things have been pretty rough this year and we are currently in process of possibly foreclosing on our home. We also just were hit on Long Island by hurricane sandy and a blizzard yesterday.”

“I’m a new mom again for the 3rd time. I lost my job in May while i was 4 months pregnant. I felt like i was wrongfully fired so i fought it and lost and then fought it again and again lost. This 3rd pregnancy was hard on me because of all the stress. I didn’t even gain any weight which wasn’t healthy for the baby.”

These are just a few of the stories, and let me tell you, the rest are just as distressing.  Ladies….we have to do something to help these families out.  These are our sisters in business.  They’re all on a mission like us and they yearn to have their own successful businesses, but taking care of their family comes first, and at this time, they’re really struggling.  I’m asking, nearly begging, that you can find it in your heart help one of these families this holiday.  Maybe you typically donate to Toys for Tots or perhaps you pick out a child from an Angel Tree.  If you are in a position to give this year, please consider giving to a fellow BAM member.  My hope is that I can find enough of you to sponsor the remaining 21 families after we give out our gift cards.  I will pair up whoever is interested with a family in need, you can then communicate with them and find out what they need.  Whether it be toys, clothes, gift cards, whatever.  You can choose how much you can spend.  Better yet…sponsor a family with your business!  Reach out to your customers to help you with donations, I’m sure they’d love to see how charitable you are. 🙂

What do you say?  I only want to get this going if we can sponsor all 21 families.  To only sponsor a few wouldn’t be fair.  So, if you’re interested, please leave your email address in the comments below and we’ll see what we come up with.  If there’s enough interest, I’ll be in touch with each of you individually to move forward.  And feel free to share your business with us as you post below.  We’d all like to support some generous folks. 😉

  2. I will help. We are blessed this year with our business starting to take off. I can donate food and emergency items. Thank you for doing this.

  3. I have some clothing items I can donate but I basically only have for babies. I have flip flops and faux crocs too. I have a couple pair of unworn jeans that I never gave to my grandson. I have newborn footed sleeper(s) I can donate.

  4. I’m interested in finding out what I can do to help!
In the meantime, I’m currently running a Toys For Tots event this week on my facebook site (www.facebook.com/discoverytoysjacksonville) where a portion of the proceeds will go to Toys for Tots. If anyone wishes to purchase toys from me to send to their family/families in need, it will also benefit Toys For Tots!

  5. I’d be happy to help in whatever way I can. I am located on the East coast and know first hand what the storms have done to the people that live here. Please let me know who I can help 🙂
